Endeavour Returns!

Series 3 of the ever excellent Endeavour returns to ITV on January 3rd for the first of four new episodes. You can watch a promo here.

The PBS broadcast date has yet to be announced.

Vera Series 6

More good news – series 5 of Vera is currently airing on ITV, but apparently series 6 is already in the works.

Production is due to start in the summer, with a broadcast date sometime in 2016.

Great News – More Masterpiece in 2015!

Thanks to Masterpiece sponsor, Viking Cruises, there will be 20 more hours than usual of Masterpiece to enjoy next year. In addition to all of the returning favorites, starting on January 18th will be six-parter Grantchester, about a 1950s crime-solving vicar and, on April 5th, the first of six episodes of the adaptation of Hilary Mantel’s novel Wolf Hall.

Death Comes to Pemberley, Elementary, The Fall and Fortitude

The first of two episodes of Death Comes to Pemberley (the adaptation of P.D. James’ homage to Pride and Prejudice) aired on Sunday, October 26th on PBS.  The episode is available online here until November 10th – find out if Wickham is a killer or just a cad.

Also, although the year is rapidly winding down, there are still some shows to watch out for.

Fans of Lucy Liu and Jonny Lee Miller’s Watson and Holmes (or those who will take any kind of Sherlock that they can get) will be happy to know that Elementary returns for its third season this Thursday, October 30th.

Series two of the well-shot and acted (if disturbing) The Fall, begins on the BBC in the second week of November (exact date and time to be confirmed).

Finally, is Sky Atlantic’s 12 part series Fortitude, set in the arctic and staring, among other greats, Sofie Grabol, Michael Gambon and Stanley Tucci. Need I say more? True, it probably won’t air until January 2015, but it’s promising enough to deserve the extra anticipation time! Here’s the trailer.

Lewis and Scott & Bailey

Don’t’ forget that Lewis returns to PBS this Sunday, October 5th at 9 for the first of three new episodes. You can watch a scene from the episode here.

Also, Scott & Bailey fans will be glad to know that episodes of series four are currently available on YouTube here.

Our Zoo Coming Soon to BBC One

This looks like it could be good – Our Zoo is a six part series that follows the efforts of a traumatized war veteran (played by the excellent Lee Ingleby – think Inspector Gently’s sidekick) to open England’s first zoo without bars.

Here’s a short promo.

The first episode will air Wednesday, September 3rd at 9.

Reminder: Endeavour Series 2 Begins this Sunday on PBS

Just a reminder to all Endeavour fans that the first of four new episodes will air this Sunday, June 29th at 9pm on Masterpiece.

You can check out a preview here.

Miss Fisher Will Return!

Fans of the 1920s Melbourne based crime series, Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries, will be relieved to know that the ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corp) has finally renewed the show for a third series. Filming is set to begin in the fall.

In the meantime, US fans can enjoy the first two seasons on Acorn TV or Netflix.

Grantchester Coming Soon to ITV

The second half of 2014 will see the return of crime drama favorites such as Scott and Bailey, Lewis and New Tricks, but there are some brand new shows to look forward to as well.

One such show is six-parter Grantchester.  Grantchester is based on the popular novels of James Runcie , who has so far written three novels of a planned six book series following the 1950s investigative exploits of Grantchester vicar, Sidney Chambers.

Here’s the briefest of teaser trailers.

The show is set to air sometime in the fall. I’ll send along updates as they become available.

PBS 2014 Fall Schedule

Sundays this fall on Masterpiece are going to be good.

Three new episodes of ITV’s Miss Marple will start things off on September 21st.

Lewis will follow beginning October 5th with three new two-part episodes. Hathaway is now an Inspector and Lewis is called out of retirement to work with him.

Next Comes the P.D. James’ homage to Pride and Prejudice with period mystery, Death Comes to Pemberley, on October 26th.

Finally, on November 9th and 16th, the excellent Bill Nighy will reprise his role as MI5 spy Johnny Worricker (first seen in Page Eight) in two feature-length episodes.
