New BBC Drama Trailer and 2 shows Available Online at PBS

The BBC’s fall/winter schedule is looking good – The Paradise series 2, Death Comes to Pemberley, Last Tango In Halifax series 2, and much more.

You can check out the trailer here.

For fans of The Paradise there is also a summary of what to expect in series 2 and a brief promo.

US viewers can now indulge in all of the 1870s lavish department store drama of the first season on Sundays on PBS.  You can watch the first episode here.

Also available online for a limited time at PBS is the first series of the very charming comedy/drama Last Tango in Halifax.  The last of the six episodes will air this Sunday (October 13) at 8.

New Shows Still to Come This Year

Luther may have concluded its final series this week in suitably operatic fashion (although US viewers will have to wait until September) and Endeavour completes its run this Sunday on PBS, but never fear — there’s more to look forward to.

Here are just a few of the coming -soons:

BBC cop dramedy New Tricks will begin its tenth series next week on July 30th.  This time out the series may see a few episodes more heavily weighted on the drama side as two of the main characters are being written out this season.

On PBS The Lady Vanishes will play on August 18th and series seven of Foyle’s War, set in the post war era with Foyle now working for MI5, will begin broadcasting on September 15th.

Also, not yet scheduled but said to be airing this year:  the third series of Vera and the fourth series of Whitechapel both on ITV, and the BBC’s Quirke about a 1950s Dublin pathologist/investigator starring Gabriel Byrne (The Usual Suspects, In Treatment) and Michael Gambon (Dumbledore from Harry Potter and many other excellent things).  The Quirke DVD has a release date of August 26th so presumably the three 90 minute episodes will air soon.

Of course there will also be series four of Downton Abbey, The Paradise series 2, Sherlock (maybe), and more.  As dates and times become available I’ll pass them along.

Summer and Fall PBS Premiere Dates – Last Tango in Halifax, Foyle’s War, The Paradise and More

In addition to Inspector Lewis on June 16th and Endeavour on July 7th, the following PBS premiere dates have been announced:

On Sunday, August 18th one-off The Lady Vanishes will air. This is a new dramatization of the novel The Wheel Spins — first translated into film by Hitchcock.

Also in August, from Sunday the 25th, Masterpiece will show Silk – a legal drama starring Rupert Penry-Jones (MI-5, Whitechapel).

Starting Sunday, September 8th will be the charming comedy/drama Last Tango in Halifax starring Derek Jacobi (Brother Cadfael!) and Anne Reid. The six part series is about childhood sweethearts who reunite after nearly 60 years. An old theme perhaps, but done very well here.

Overlapping with Last Tango and creating very good Sunday viewing, the three new episodes of Foyle’s War will air starting Sunday, September 15th.

Next is The Paradise, a period drama based on a novel by Émile Zola, which takes place in one of the early department stores — it actually aired before Mr. Selfridge in the UK. It will begin its eight episode series on Sunday, October 6th.

PBS will make all of these episodes available online for a limited time after their airdate.
