ITV and the BBC have teamed up to create a new steaming service for American viewers. BritBox will apparently offer the largest video-on-demand library of British tv programs available anywhere in the US. Some shows (Eastenders, Holby City, Emmerdale) will be available within 24 hours of airing in the UK.
In terms of crime dramas, it’s not yet clear how many shows will be available that are not already on offer elsewhere. Press releases have mentioned The Moonstone (the recent adaptation of the Wilkie Collins novel), Silent Witness (of which only a few seasons are available for purchase on Amazon), and New Blood.
The service is due to go live in the next few months and the subscription price has yet to be revealed.

PBS’s Masterpiece is wonderful – it airs fantastic British shows and then provides them online for free. But PBS (and BBC America) can only do so much. After that the UK tv addict has to turn to Amazon, Netflix or Hulu.
Now there is another option in the online streaming world. Acorn Media has launched Acorn TV. You can try it out for free for one month. There is overlap with what’s already available on Amazon, etc., but there are also some series that you can’t currently get anywhere else, including: the latest series of Vera; the first series of the charming 1920s Australian whodunit, Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries (based on novels by Kerry Greenwood and starring the beautiful Essie Davis); series 14 of Midsomer Murders; and the absurd and excellent Blandings (based on P.G. Wodehouse’s classic stories).
