The 2013 Masterpiece Mystery! Season Starts this Sunday on PBS

The first episode of the final series of Inspector Lewis will kick things off this Sunday June 16th at 9pm.  Check out this clip from the first episode, a preview of the series as a whole, and a general promo for the entire Masterpiece Mystery! season — you’ll catch glimpses of Endeavour, Foyle’s War, Silk and The Lady Vanishes.

The Mystery! schedule is as follows:  Lewis will be on for the next three Sundays followed by Endeavour for four weeks, The Lady Vanishes airs on August 18th, Silk for three weeks from August 25th, and finally Foyle’s War on September 15, 22 and 29.

Each episode will be available online for a limited time after its airdate.

Aside: David Suchet’s documentary style trip on the Orient Express will air at 8pm this Sunday, right before Lewis.  It’s worth checking out.

Aside 2:  It’s been announced that Downton Abbey will return for its fourth season on January 5th, 2014.

Summer and Fall PBS Premiere Dates – Last Tango in Halifax, Foyle’s War, The Paradise and More

In addition to Inspector Lewis on June 16th and Endeavour on July 7th, the following PBS premiere dates have been announced:

On Sunday, August 18th one-off The Lady Vanishes will air. This is a new dramatization of the novel The Wheel Spins — first translated into film by Hitchcock.

Also in August, from Sunday the 25th, Masterpiece will show Silk – a legal drama starring Rupert Penry-Jones (MI-5, Whitechapel).

Starting Sunday, September 8th will be the charming comedy/drama Last Tango in Halifax starring Derek Jacobi (Brother Cadfael!) and Anne Reid. The six part series is about childhood sweethearts who reunite after nearly 60 years. An old theme perhaps, but done very well here.

Overlapping with Last Tango and creating very good Sunday viewing, the three new episodes of Foyle’s War will air starting Sunday, September 15th.

Next is The Paradise, a period drama based on a novel by Émile Zola, which takes place in one of the early department stores — it actually aired before Mr. Selfridge in the UK. It will begin its eight episode series on Sunday, October 6th.

PBS will make all of these episodes available online for a limited time after their airdate.
