BritBox—Coming Soon to a Device near you

ITV and the BBC have teamed up to create a new steaming service for American viewers. BritBox will apparently offer the largest video-on-demand library of British tv programs available anywhere in the US. Some shows (Eastenders, Holby City, Emmerdale) will be available within 24 hours of airing in the UK.

In terms of crime dramas, it’s not yet clear how many shows will be available that are not already on offer elsewhere. Press releases have mentioned The Moonstone (the recent adaptation of the Wilkie Collins novel), Silent Witness (of which only a few seasons are available for purchase on Amazon), and New Blood.

The service is due to go live in the next few months and the subscription price has yet to be revealed.

You can sign up to receive more info and check out the website here.

New Crime Drama on Acorn TV

Those of you with an Acorn TV membership will be able to enjoy a whole host of new British crime dramas over the next few weeks.

The complete series 7 of George Gently is already available, as is each episode of series 5 of Vera.

The first two episodes of new dysfunctional cop/serial killer drama, Chasing Shadows, are up, with the final two arriving over the next two weeks.

Finally, Partners in Crime, the BBC’s adaptation of two of Agatha Christie’s Tommy and Tuppence novels, will become available starting September 3rd.

New Sherlock Clip!

Check out the brief clip here.

Sherlock is due to return to PBS/BBC for a standalone Special and a new series of three episodes. No airdate has been mentioned yet beyond a “coming soon-ish”, although the snow in the clip makes me wonder if the Special might air during the holiday season.

Soon-ish might not be soon enough for fans but it’s certainly better than nothing! I’ll send along more details as they become available.

Complications Episode 1 Free Now

For a limited time you can check out episode 1 of the new usa series, Complications, on Amazon here. On usa you can watch the first two episodes for free with commercials, and the third episode if you sign in with your television provider.

The show, about a doctor dragged into the middle of a gang war when he saves a child, airs Thursdays this summer.

Wayward Pines Episode 1 Free Now

Not sure that a 10-part FOX miniseries about a secret service agent trapped in a creepy Brigadoon-esque town is for you? Well for a (probably) limited time, you can get the first episode free on Amazon. Check out a trailer here.

New TV Crime Drama

The Fall    — series 2 available now on Netflix

Grantchester – starts Sunday, January 18th on PBS

Foyle’s War – final season starts streaming on Acorn TV on Monday, February 2nd

Justified – final season starts Tuesday, January 20st on FX

Death Comes to Pemberley, Elementary, The Fall and Fortitude

The first of two episodes of Death Comes to Pemberley (the adaptation of P.D. James’ homage to Pride and Prejudice) aired on Sunday, October 26th on PBS.  The episode is available online here until November 10th – find out if Wickham is a killer or just a cad.

Also, although the year is rapidly winding down, there are still some shows to watch out for.

Fans of Lucy Liu and Jonny Lee Miller’s Watson and Holmes (or those who will take any kind of Sherlock that they can get) will be happy to know that Elementary returns for its third season this Thursday, October 30th.

Series two of the well-shot and acted (if disturbing) The Fall, begins on the BBC in the second week of November (exact date and time to be confirmed).

Finally, is Sky Atlantic’s 12 part series Fortitude, set in the arctic and staring, among other greats, Sofie Grabol, Michael Gambon and Stanley Tucci. Need I say more? True, it probably won’t air until January 2015, but it’s promising enough to deserve the extra anticipation time! Here’s the trailer.
