Coming Soon (ish) to PBS

Series 3 of Call The Midwife will debut on March 30th.

The second series of The Bletchley Circle will begin on Sunday, April 13th.

Last Tango in Halifax, series 2, will air starting June 29th.

Visit PBS for more information about these and other shows coming in 2014.

Holiday Season on the BBC

The BBC is cramming a lot of excellent drama into the end of this year and the beginning of the next.

Last Tango in Halifax will complete its second series on December 24th, Call the Midwife has its Christmas special on the 25th, the adaptation of P.D. James’ Death Comes to Pemberley will air its three episodes on December 26th, 27th and 28th, and on December 30th will be the one-off adaptation of mystery novel, The Thirteenth Tale, starring Olivia Colman and Vanessa Redgrave.

Now for the new year — not only is Sherlock returning on New Year’s Day, but episode two (John’s wedding!) will follow quickly on the 5th.  On January 6th, Father Brown returns for the first of 10 new episodes, with a new episode airing each weekday afternoon.  Also returning in the first week of January is long-running series Silent Witness.

Happy Holidays!

Last Tango In Halifax Series 2

Fans of this series starring Derek Jacobi and Anne Reid will be glad to know that series 2 is due to begin airing tomorrow (Tuesday, November 19th) at 9pm on BBC One.

The new series sees Alan recovered and he and Celia still determined to marry, but it still doesn’t look like it will be smooth sailing for the couple or for any of their family and friends.

Summer and Fall PBS Premiere Dates – Last Tango in Halifax, Foyle’s War, The Paradise and More

In addition to Inspector Lewis on June 16th and Endeavour on July 7th, the following PBS premiere dates have been announced:

On Sunday, August 18th one-off The Lady Vanishes will air. This is a new dramatization of the novel The Wheel Spins — first translated into film by Hitchcock.

Also in August, from Sunday the 25th, Masterpiece will show Silk – a legal drama starring Rupert Penry-Jones (MI-5, Whitechapel).

Starting Sunday, September 8th will be the charming comedy/drama Last Tango in Halifax starring Derek Jacobi (Brother Cadfael!) and Anne Reid. The six part series is about childhood sweethearts who reunite after nearly 60 years. An old theme perhaps, but done very well here.

Overlapping with Last Tango and creating very good Sunday viewing, the three new episodes of Foyle’s War will air starting Sunday, September 15th.

Next is The Paradise, a period drama based on a novel by Émile Zola, which takes place in one of the early department stores — it actually aired before Mr. Selfridge in the UK. It will begin its eight episode series on Sunday, October 6th.

PBS will make all of these episodes available online for a limited time after their airdate.
