ITV and the BBC have teamed up to create a new steaming service for American viewers. BritBox will apparently offer the largest video-on-demand library of British tv programs available anywhere in the US. Some shows (Eastenders, Holby City, Emmerdale) will be available within 24 hours of airing in the UK.
In terms of crime dramas, it’s not yet clear how many shows will be available that are not already on offer elsewhere. Press releases have mentioned The Moonstone (the recent adaptation of the Wilkie Collins novel), Silent Witness (of which only a few seasons are available for purchase on Amazon), and New Blood.
The service is due to go live in the next few months and the subscription price has yet to be revealed.

This blog has been very short on postings lately as I’ve been working on getting my crime novel—Too Far to Fall—ready for publication after it’s long and arduous journey through the wacky world of publishing. I’ll post my cover and a blurb once it’s out in the world.
In the meantime, in the next few weeks both ITV and the BBC should release their Christmas promos. A Grantchester Christmas Special has already been announced and who knows what else might be in store!
To tide you over you could check out The Night Manager on Amazon Prime, Doctor Foster on Netflix, or one of the new Australian crime dramas currently available on Acorn TV—Winter, Jack Irish, or Deep Water.
Filming will begin soon for 6 new Grantchester episodes and a Christmas special that will air this coming holiday season.
ITV promises “a festive, snow-filled Christmas episode full of emotion and drama.” Sounds good–even if probably not very holiday happy ending-y.

No word yet on a PBS transmission date.
Just a reminder that the second series of Grantchester (already underway on ITV) will begin airing on PBS on Sunday, March 27.
On Acorn TV you can enjoy the most recent series of Vera starting Monday, March 21, with a new episode (four total) up every Monday.
Also coming to Acorn is Janet King. This Australian courtroom drama staring A Place to Call Home’s Marta Dusseldorp, will begin on Monday, March 14 with the first of eight episodes.
