New Crime Drama on Acorn TV

Those of you with an Acorn TV membership will be able to enjoy a whole host of new British crime dramas over the next few weeks.

The complete series 7 of George Gently is already available, as is each episode of series 5 of Vera.

The first two episodes of new dysfunctional cop/serial killer drama, Chasing Shadows, are up, with the final two arriving over the next two weeks.

Finally, Partners in Crime, the BBC’s adaptation of two of Agatha Christie’s Tommy and Tuppence novels, will become available starting September 3rd.

Orphan Black Season 1 Available for free streaming today only

Not sure that clone drama is for you? For today only (Friday, April 17) Amazon is making the whole first season available for free streaming.

You can check it out here.

It’s worth a try even if you aren’t usually into science fiction type stuff because it’s also a great conspiracy thriller/mystery/character drama – not to mention a chance to enjoy Tatiana Maslany’s truly excellent performance(s).

Death Comes to Pemberley, Elementary, The Fall and Fortitude

The first of two episodes of Death Comes to Pemberley (the adaptation of P.D. James’ homage to Pride and Prejudice) aired on Sunday, October 26th on PBS.  The episode is available online here until November 10th – find out if Wickham is a killer or just a cad.

Also, although the year is rapidly winding down, there are still some shows to watch out for.

Fans of Lucy Liu and Jonny Lee Miller’s Watson and Holmes (or those who will take any kind of Sherlock that they can get) will be happy to know that Elementary returns for its third season this Thursday, October 30th.

Series two of the well-shot and acted (if disturbing) The Fall, begins on the BBC in the second week of November (exact date and time to be confirmed).

Finally, is Sky Atlantic’s 12 part series Fortitude, set in the arctic and staring, among other greats, Sofie Grabol, Michael Gambon and Stanley Tucci. Need I say more? True, it probably won’t air until January 2015, but it’s promising enough to deserve the extra anticipation time! Here’s the trailer.

George Gently on Acorn TV

US Gently and Bacchus fans don’t have to wait to see the new series.  In fact, subscribers to Acorn TV can already watch the first episode, even though it doesn’t air on the BBC until Thursday.  Acorn will put up a new episode every Monday for the next three weeks.

The Wrong Mans

The first two episodes of this Hulu/BBC series are now available for free online at Hulu (Hulu Plus members can watch all six).  Two normal (okay, slightly oddball) guys get pulled into an international crime conspiracy/caper when one of them answers the wrong phone at the scene of an accident.

Available Free Online – Morse, Vera, George Gently, Lewis and More

Hulu has made a number of British crime dramas available for free online streaming.

Vera (first 8 episodes)

Morse (all 33 episodes)

Lewis (5 episodes)

George Gently (the complete first series – 3 episodes)

A search through Hulu’s offerings will likely turn up a few other interesting crime dramas.

Happy viewing.
