Death Comes to Pemberley, Elementary, The Fall and Fortitude

The first of two episodes of Death Comes to Pemberley (the adaptation of P.D. James’ homage to Pride and Prejudice) aired on Sunday, October 26th on PBS.  The episode is available online here until November 10th – find out if Wickham is a killer or just a cad.

Also, although the year is rapidly winding down, there are still some shows to watch out for.

Fans of Lucy Liu and Jonny Lee Miller’s Watson and Holmes (or those who will take any kind of Sherlock that they can get) will be happy to know that Elementary returns for its third season this Thursday, October 30th.

Series two of the well-shot and acted (if disturbing) The Fall, begins on the BBC in the second week of November (exact date and time to be confirmed).

Finally, is Sky Atlantic’s 12 part series Fortitude, set in the arctic and staring, among other greats, Sofie Grabol, Michael Gambon and Stanley Tucci. Need I say more? True, it probably won’t air until January 2015, but it’s promising enough to deserve the extra anticipation time! Here’s the trailer.

PBS 2014 Fall Schedule

Sundays this fall on Masterpiece are going to be good.

Three new episodes of ITV’s Miss Marple will start things off on September 21st.

Lewis will follow beginning October 5th with three new two-part episodes. Hathaway is now an Inspector and Lewis is called out of retirement to work with him.

Next Comes the P.D. James’ homage to Pride and Prejudice with period mystery, Death Comes to Pemberley, on October 26th.

Finally, on November 9th and 16th, the excellent Bill Nighy will reprise his role as MI5 spy Johnny Worricker (first seen in Page Eight) in two feature-length episodes.

Holiday Season on the BBC

The BBC is cramming a lot of excellent drama into the end of this year and the beginning of the next.

Last Tango in Halifax will complete its second series on December 24th, Call the Midwife has its Christmas special on the 25th, the adaptation of P.D. James’ Death Comes to Pemberley will air its three episodes on December 26th, 27th and 28th, and on December 30th will be the one-off adaptation of mystery novel, The Thirteenth Tale, starring Olivia Colman and Vanessa Redgrave.

Now for the new year — not only is Sherlock returning on New Year’s Day, but episode two (John’s wedding!) will follow quickly on the 5th.  On January 6th, Father Brown returns for the first of 10 new episodes, with a new episode airing each weekday afternoon.  Also returning in the first week of January is long-running series Silent Witness.

Happy Holidays!

Death Comes to Pemberley – and to PBS

It’s been announced that the BBC’s production of Death Comes to Pemberley (P.D. James’ whodunit homage to Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice) will also be shown on PBS in 2014.

In the three-part series (set six years after Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy were married) a murderer dares to soil the hallowed grounds of Pemberley.  Further plot details are available here.

A promising premise.  I’ll pass along any footage/info as it becomes available.
