Our Zoo Coming Soon to BBC One

This looks like it could be good – Our Zoo is a six part series that follows the efforts of a traumatized war veteran (played by the excellent Lee Ingleby – think Inspector Gently’s sidekick) to open England’s first zoo without bars.

Here’s a short promo.

The first episode will air Wednesday, September 3rd at 9.

Reminder: Endeavour Series 2 Begins this Sunday on PBS

Just a reminder to all Endeavour fans that the first of four new episodes will air this Sunday, June 29th at 9pm on Masterpiece.

Grantchester Coming Soon to ITV

The second half of 2014 will see the return of crime drama favorites such as Scott and Bailey, Lewis and New Tricks, but there are some brand new shows to look forward to as well.

One such show is six-parter Grantchester.  Grantchester is based on the popular novels of James Runcie , who has so far written three novels of a planned six book series following the 1950s investigative exploits of Grantchester vicar, Sidney Chambers.

Here’s the briefest of teaser trailers.

The show is set to air sometime in the fall. I’ll send along updates as they become available.

PBS 2014 Fall Schedule

Sundays this fall on Masterpiece are going to be good.

Three new episodes of ITV’s Miss Marple will start things off on September 21st.

Lewis will follow beginning October 5th with three new two-part episodes. Hathaway is now an Inspector and Lewis is called out of retirement to work with him.

Next Comes the P.D. James’ homage to Pride and Prejudice with period mystery, Death Comes to Pemberley, on October 26th.

Finally, on November 9th and 16th, the excellent Bill Nighy will reprise his role as MI5 spy Johnny Worricker (first seen in Page Eight) in two feature-length episodes.

New Crime Drama — Happy Valley and Hinterland

Two new crime dramas begin next week on the BBC.

Happy Valley is a six-parter about the botched kidnapping of a young girl. You can watch a promo here and then tune in for the first episode on Tuesday, April 29th at 9.

Hinterland is set in Wales. DCI Tom Mathias, fresh from the Met in London, will investigate four separate crimes. The first concerns the dark past of a former children’s home. The show will air on Monday, April 28th at 9. Here’s a promo.

Interesting Fact: The filming of Hinterland appears to have been quite the undertaking – brutal weather aside; they had to film all the scenes with dialogue twice. Once in English and once in Welsh!

Reminder: Series 2 of The Bletchley Circle and Series 3 of Call the Midwife are currently airing on Sundays on PBS. You can catch up on the first few episodes of both online.
